For the majority of my educational background, english has not been a subject in which I am particularly interested. On occasion, I enjoy reading a certain novel or handout, but writing is not my strong point. Learning new things and having discussions can be engaging, but I never look forward to writing a term paper. In this english class, I expect more reading and writing. I expect a heavy work load of tasks I probably will not enjoy. If, however, the topics of study are intriguing, I may not dread english homework. Having a say in what we do and what topics we research may even trigger enough interest to enjoy the class. So far, the discussions have been enhancing. The excerpt from Hooks’ book was enlightening and I am happy it was assigned. The second reading, although well written, was frustrating because it was beyond my reading level. This semester I hope to elevate my level of reading so I can understand more writings, especially those concerning higher thinking. Material which forces me to think is very enjoyable so if this is throughout the curriculum, I will be happily involved.
